Depleted Bulldogs lose to strong Fylde side, despite resilient performance

The Bulldogs returned to action a month after their last game with a second round Lancs Cup tie against Fylde.

Missing seven players through a mixture of injuries and holidays, the depleted Bulldogs welcomed Ethan C on his debut.

The visitors made the perfect start, scoring within the first two minutes for a converted try (0-7).

Fylde looked to have extended their lead after ten minutes, only for Leo to produce an outstanding goal line tackle.

Fylde were temporarily reduced to fourteen when consistent foul play at the ruck resulted in a yellow card.

With the Bulldogs dominating possession, a series of missed touch kicks from penalties turned the ball back to the visitors which resulted in a second try to Fylde after twenty two minutes (0-14).

The Bulldogs pieced together their most fluent rugby of the half to move the upfield which allowed Tristan to score from close range. Leo converted the try (7-14).

Against the run of play the impressive Fylde winger broke away to score in the corner with the final play of the half. The conversion was unsuccessful (7-19).

HT: 7-19

With ten minutes of the half gone, the visitors extended their lead with a try on the back of consecutive penalties. The conversion was successful (7-26).

Fylde scored immediately again with a perfect kick bouncing into the wingers hands to score a converted try under the posts (7-33).

With sixteen minutes of the game left, the Bulldogs dug deep and found their way to the line through Oscar. Tristan converted the try (14-33).

The Bulldogs finished strongly with Stephen diving over from close range following some excellent work from the forwards. The difficult conversion from Tristan was converted (21-33).

The Bulldogs almost scored from the kick off with a flying run from Rhys and a kick from Leo just running dead.

In confusing circumstances at the end of the game the referee awarded a penalty try to Fylde.

FT: 21-40
